- Systemic autoimmune disorder.
- It is a chronic inflammatory, connective tissue disease affecting many joints. Small peripheral joints of the hands and feet are affected first.
- TMJ symptoms are usually minor.
- Females:males is about 3:1
- Radiographic features are usually bilateral and symmetrical.
- Radiographic features: Flattening, erosion, resorption and sclerosis of the head of the condyle. Reduced joint space. Anterior open bite.
