Stafne’s bone cavity (Lingual salivary gland depression) .

  • it is an asymptomatic cavity that is located in the angle of the mandible. It is not a pathological entity, but an anatomical variation and is always discovered incidentally during radiographic examination.
  • The radiographic appearance and the location are characteristic.
  • Radiographically is a unilocular, round or oval, well-defined radiolucency in the angle of the mandible, between the mandibular canal and the lower border. The diameter of the lesion is between 1 to 3 cm.
  • CBCT scans show only a concavity or depression of the lingual cortical plate without the existence of an osteolytic lesion.
