Ameloblastoma (multilocular) .

  • Benign but locally aggressive odontogenic tumor. It normally grows slowly as a painless swelling of the affected side.
  • It may occur at any age but usually at the third to sixth decades of life.
  • It invades locally the surrounding bone.
  • 80-95% are found in the mandible (posterior region and ramus . In the maxilla usually are located in the premolar or molar region.
  • The small lesions are unilocular. Larger lesions may become multilocular (with soap bubbles or honeycomb appearance).
  • Adjacent teeth are often displaced and resorbed.
  • The lesion causes extensive bone expansion and cortical plate destruction.
  • Incomplete removal of the lesion may result in recurrence.
