Idiopathic osteosclerosis (dense bone island) .

  • It is a benign condition characterized by a localized area of increased bone density (sclerosis) in the jaw, that has no known cause.
  • Most common location is the mandible.
  • It is always asymptomatic and is discovered incidentally during radiographic examination.
  • Radiographically, it is a circumscribed radiopacity with well defined borders in any region of the jaw.
  • Treatment is not necessary.
