Osteopetrosis .
- Osteopetrosis refers to a group of hereditary disorders characterized by an increase in bone density.
- It is a rare disease and is distinguished in a) Malignant or infantile form or Albers-Schönberg disease, b) Benign or adult form and c) Intermediate form.
- It is characterized by an increased density of all bones. The increased density is homogenous and diffused, causing several deformities such as: projection of the frontal bones, dental and orthodontic anomalies, brachysomia and bone fractures.
- Radiographic findings: diffuse and symmetrical bone sclerosis throughout the skeletal system. In the jaws an increased symmetrical and diffused bony sclerosis is observed. The trabecular patterns of the medullary cavity is absent, loss of the lamina dura and disappearance of the sinuses and nasal cavities, are some other findings.
